Do I need a ticket?

Usually, no. Most Couch Club events are free and you can simply show up.

Some events may have limited capacity or require registration depending on the location, so check the event details before heading out.

Popcorn, mocktails and wildly unnecessary donation items are usually available if you'd like to support the continued operation of the projector.

Can teens attend?

Yes. Most Couch Club events are open to everyone.

Part of the reason this project exists is that young people should have more places to gather that are safe, welcoming and not fast-food parking lots.

What should I bring?

It depends on the night.

Sometimes we'll have couches and seating covered. Sometimes an outdoor event might call for a camp chair, blanket or several unnecessary layers because this is Squamish.

Check the event details and we'll tell you what you need.

What happens if the weather doesn't cooperate?

Outdoor Couch Clubs are somewhat dependent on Squamish weather agreeing to participate.

Depending on the event, we may have a backup date, an indoor option or need to postpone.

We'll make the plan clear in the event details and let everyone know if something changes.

How do I know if an event is appropriate for my kids?

Check the individual event listing. We'll let you know what we're showing or doing and include relevant age or content information when it matters.

Most Couch Clubs are intended to be welcoming to a broad mix of ages, but not every event will be appropriate for everyone.

Where does Couch Club happen?

Wherever someone will have us.

Backyards, courtyards, common rooms, parks, businesses and other spaces around Squamish can all become Couch Club for a night.

Is it always a movie?

Nope.

Movies are a pretty good excuse to get people together, but so are video games, watch parties, tournaments, local films and other ideas that work better on a very large screen.

How do I find out about the next one?

We'll let you know when we've figured out where we're putting the screen next.

Will you come outside Squamish?

Not right now.

We're keeping Couch Club in Squamish while we figure all of this out.

Never say never, but for now we're staying close to home.

Will there be snacks?

Almost certainly.

Popcorn is kind of our thing, and we'll usually have drinks, candy and other concessions available too.

What we're able to offer can vary depending on the event and location, so check the event details if snacks are a deciding factor. We won't judge.

Why is the popcorn overpriced?

Excellent question.

The popcorn itself is identical. However, purchasing the Overpriced Popcorn unlocks the powerful and rare Community Support Buff, which helps keep the lights dim and the movies playing.

Can I host a Couch Club event?

Absolutely.

Neighbourhood movie nights, birthdays, game nights, watch parties, business events and other mildly questionable ideas are all possible.

How much does it cost to host something?

It depends on what we're doing.

For free community events, we're generally just looking to have the direct costs covered, things like licensing, insurance or venue requirements. We're not trying to make a profit from your neighbourhood movie night.

Private events like birthdays, client events and parties are different. We'll charge for our time and what you'd like us to provide, and the money we make helps fund the free community side of Couch Club.

If you've got an idea but aren't sure which category it falls into, ask us. We're pretty reasonable.

How big does an event need to be?

It doesn't.

A dozen kids playing Mario Kart can make just as much sense as a neighbourhood movie night with 100 people.

The right setup depends on the space, what we're doing and how many people you're expecting.

How far in advance should I contact you?

Earlier is easier.

Some events are simple. Others need film licences, permits, insurance, venue approvals or other paperwork that takes time.

If you're thinking about something, reach out even if the idea isn't fully formed yet. We'd much rather hear about it early and figure it out with you than discover three days beforehand that someone needs a permit.

What do you bring to a hosted event?

Potentially quite a lot.

We have the screen, projector, sound system, microphones, game systems, popcorn machine and other equipment needed to turn a space into Couch Club for the night.

We can also help with things like licensing, concessions, event planning and promotion.

Every event is different, so we'll figure out together what makes sense for yours.

What do I have to do if I'm hosting?

As much or as little as makes sense.

If you want us to handle the screen, sound, popcorn and running the night while you provide the space, great.

If you're a business that wants to handle your own food, promotion or part of the event, that's great too.

The one thing we don't do is simply drop off the equipment. Couch Club stays with the gear and runs the event with you.

Can you show anything?

Not always.

Movies, music and live broadcasts can have public-performance licensing requirements, and some content may not be available.

You don't need to figure that out before contacting us. We'll work out what applies.

Can Couch Club come to my backyard or common area?

Probably.

We can work in backyards, courtyards, community rooms, parks and other spaces around Squamish.

Things like permits, power, venue rules and insurance may affect what's possible, but that's exactly the sort of thing we can help figure out.

Do you rent out the equipment?

No. We set it up, run it and tear it down ourselves.

We'd rather stay and make sure everything works than drop off a pile of very expensive cables and wish you luck.
